The Kansas Healthy Food Initiative is a healthy food financing program that aims to increase access to healthy food in low-resource and underserved areas of Kansas.
Eligible food retail projects must expand healthy food offerings in low-resource, underserved neighborhoods and fit local community needs. Grocery chains, neighborhood food and grocery stores, co-ops, farmers markets, production and distribution operations, and other food projects are eligible. All applicants are strongly encouraged to accept SNAP and WIC benefits.
All projects submitted to KHFI for funding are reviewed to determine whether the project meets the programmatic goals of the program. This eligibility is the first step of the process.
